Why Red Light Therapy?
What if light could support the body at a cellular level?
Red Light Therapy is a form of photobiomodulation that uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to interact with the body’s cells.
Unlike UV light, which can damage skin, red and near-infrared wavelengths are used for their ability to interact with cellular processes involved in energy production, circulation, recovery, and tissue function.
At soh:m, Red Light Therapy is a simple, restorative ritual designed to give the body targeted light exposure in a calm, private setting.
How does Red Light Therapy work?
Red and near-infrared light penetrate the skin and are absorbed by cellular structures, including mitochondria — the part of the cell responsible for producing energy.
This interaction may support cellular energy production and influence processes involved in circulation, tissue repair, inflammation regulation, and oxidative balance.
The goal isn't to force the body to do something unnatural. It is to provide a form of light stimulation that works alongside the body's existing biological processes.
Red light vs. near-infrared light
Red and near-infrared wavelengths work at different depths.
Red light is generally used for more superficial tissues and is commonly associated with skin and surface-level cellular support.
Near-infrared light penetrates deeper into tissue and is commonly used to support muscles, joints, circulation, and recovery.
Together, these wavelengths allow for a broader full-body light therapy experience.
What can Red Light Therapy support?
Red Light Therapy is commonly used as part of wellness routines focused on:
Cellular energy — supporting mitochondrial function and energy production
Recovery — supporting the body's natural recovery processes after physical stress
Circulation — encouraging healthy blood flow and tissue oxygenation
Skin health — supporting collagen-related processes and overall skin appearance
Muscle and joint comfort — providing supportive light exposure to areas experiencing everyday physical stress
Relaxation and wellbeing — creating a calm, restorative pause for the body and mind
Why consistency matters
Red Light Therapy isn't about one dramatic session. Like many wellness practices, its value can come from consistent, appropriate exposure over time.
Regular sessions may be incorporated into a routine alongside movement, nutrition, sleep, hydration, and other recovery practices.
Some clients use Red Light Therapy as part of their regular wellness routine, while others incorporate it around periods of increased physical activity, travel, stress, or when their body simply needs a little extra recovery support.
A full-body light ritual
At soh:m, your session takes place in a private treatment room using our professional-grade Hooga Ultra1500 panel.
The full-body setup allows red and near-infrared light to reach multiple areas of the body during a single 20-minute session.
There is no strenuous activity required. Simply relax, allow the light to do its work, and take 20 minutes to pause.
For best exposure, clients typically wear shorts and a tank top, or may undress to their underwear in the privacy of the treatment room. Protective eyewear is available.
Who is it for?
Red Light Therapy can be a simple addition to a wellness routine for people looking to support:
Everyday recovery and physical wellbeing
Skin health and appearance
Circulation and tissue support
Muscle and joint comfort
Relaxation and restoration
A consistent self-care routine
It can be used as a standalone session or incorporated into a broader soh:m ritual alongside our other wellness therapies.
More than a light — a moment to reset
Modern life exposes the body to constant stimulation, artificial light, stress, sitting, screens, and physical demands.
Red Light Therapy offers something much simpler: 20 minutes of intentional light, stillness, and restoration.
At soh:m, it is less about chasing a quick result and more about creating a ritual you can return to — supporting the body, giving it space to recover, and making wellness part of your routine.
